The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Culture, and in collaboration with the Mexican Music Council, is launching the binational competition “Mexico Canta por la Paz y Contra las Adicciones” (“Mexico Sings for Peace and Against Addictions”), an initiative aimed at transforming the reality of thousands of young people through music.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the initiative in April with the goal of creating new musical narratives and strengthening traditional Mexican music genres. Throughout the process, Minister of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza has reported on each stage’s progress.

The call for entries drew more than 15,000 participants — composers, singer-songwriters, and performers — from Mexico and the United States. From these, 365 finalists were selected: 320 from Mexico and 45 from the United States.
Starting August 17, the semifinals of “Mexico Sings” will reach millions of households through public media and digital platforms. Every Sunday until September 21, audiences will follow the journey of young artists ready to conquer the stage.

On September 28, a special edition will recap the semifinalists’ highlights, and the grand live finale will take place on October 5 at the iconic Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, featuring a special performance by Intoc
The contestants will be evaluated by a panel representing the best of Mexican musical talent and experience:
● Regina Orozco – singer, actress, and cultural icon recognized for her artistic activism.
● América Sierra – songwriter from Sinaloa whose hits have shaped regional Mexican music.
● Mónica Vélez – one of the most influential lyricists in Latin pop.
● Javier Ramírez – music producer and member of the Mexican Music Council.

Winners will receive support to advance their artistic careers, including personalized mentorship from key figures in the Mexican Music Council, access to recording studios, and professional preparation for the grand finale. The prizes are as follows:
● Best Song Award: Contract with a national, multinational, or independent record label.
● Best Performer Award: Recording contract plus the production of a 12-track LP with audiovisual content.
